    Testing v8.006

    Changes in this version:

    8.006a
    • Settings.txt Editor display (use the F12 key for now)
    • New settings.txt create routine for new TSRE instances/folders
    • "Make Vertical" for static objects on the object selection right-click menu
    • Error handling for placeholder Activity files (traffic, service, activity) when left in place in error
    8.006b
    • Fixed issue with activity loading due to typo
    8.006c
    • Updating source location for default appdata and making that a setting
    • Added Launcher screen (requires that startapp is not set in settings.txt and you are not using a batch startup with command line options)
    8.006d
    • Uncomments all settings by default
    8.006e
    • Addresses crash related bugs in 8.006d
    • Restores commenting out for some functions
    • Allows direct creation of Settings.txt and backing up the existing file (date/timestamped)
    • Moves asset and template route downloads to Trainsim's servers (just in case Goku's ever go away)
    8.006f
    • Restores selective route merge capability (broken in 8.005)
    • SeasonalEditing = false will disable seasonal editing and allow Season string to be left in place
    8.006g
    • Fully functional merge with ability to disable TDB, RDB, and terrain (height and terrtex) using available settings
    • TDB Rebuild makes backup copies of all .W files and .TDB/.RDB before processing, as deleting the existing TDB/RDB is necessary
    8.006h
    • TDB rebuild will leave static objects for Signal, Speedpost, and LvlCrossing before removing the interactive
    • Added CERecent.txt editing capabilities to the Settings->Consist Editor tab
    8.006j
    • Modified include logic to resolve pathing errors
    • Fixed route dropdown in Activity Consists
    • Force modified bit to be reset during saves when no files are being added or deleted to the route folder and subfolders
    8.006k
    • Key shortcuts added to Status window

ALWAYS have backups when using testing versions, as unexpected outcomes could damage a route beyond repair

Since the Settings.txt has proven to be challenging to some, v8.006 will include a "settings editor" within the tool to help edit and maintain the various tokens. The layout is fixed, and it will read the application defaults first, and then use your local file to over-ride with your preferences.

The Route Editor tab scrolls to get to the other items, but I will likely break that up into a few sub-tabs.

Happy to hear some input from power-users as to what makes the most sense for that.

This version also does a quick check on activity files to see if they're too short (i.e. to deal with the B&O West End and its "deleteme" type placeholders) and will ignore them.

There's also a "make it vertical" placement aid that was requested by Paul Charland.

My current route cannot be loaded. Last entry in the log: [I] #ACT - undefined token: "simisa@@@@@@@@@@jinx0f0t______"
TSRE closes automatically after you select a route.
With TSRE Release Candidate v8.005, this is no problem.
The entry in “Activities” reads SIMISA@@@@@@@@@@JINX0a0t______

Would it be possible to add a setting where the size/population/density of forest objects for auto-placement can bet manually set by the user (override the current 100m x 100m/ 10 pop)?
I am still relatively unfamiliar with using the TSRE fork so apologies if this feature already exists.

Probably related to the invalid ACT file check... back to the drawing board.

Found the error... Typo. Loaded activities and services, but the traffic was trying to reload an activity file because I'd copied and pasted a line without updating the actual properties...

              It's already an option:

              capture_5100577.jpg

Change the density per KM to whatever value you like and the population will adjust.

                # usequadtree = false/true doesn't seem to be working?

Affects ability edit routes like the FBL V3. As the terrain doesn't show. Just a void.

Make sure you take the # out. That's a comment indicator and will block anything you're doing as an override.

I just brought up v4 and it's fine.

For disclosure, the settings editor is about 90% written using Gemini (Google) AI.

Part of that is because QT is still a pain to write code for, and the other part is because C++ is not one of the languages I worked with prior to taking on the TSRE fork.

That's allowed me to focus a little bit more on the UI aspects and a little bit less banging my head trying to find out why the code isn't compiling.

If it works out, we could move away entirely from hand editing the settings.txt and save in JSON or another format for saving the config. Let me know what you all think of that option.

                        Eric,
I should have clarified further. When auto-placing a forest region following the TDB the size/population reverts to 100x100/10pop regardless of what the manually inputted values are. Auto-placement speeds up lining the tracksides with forests/trees tremendously, but I still need to click and manually adjust the values for each placed region afterward.

For many users who aren't familiar with script files, having a graphical interface for the config would certainly be a major improvement. It would eliminate the need to distinguish between # and //. TRUE and FALSE are sufficient for differentiation.
Would it be possible to access this settings page directly in the route selection window, rather than having to wait until a route has loaded? In MSTS, there was the option to return to the route selection without closing and restarting the editor. I haven’t found this option in TSRE yet. It’s also worth noting that TSRE’s startup time is negligible compared to MSTS.

My immediate thought is to add a popup prior to route selection to launch the settings, and also to launch the consist & shape viewer without needing the batch file or remembering the command line switches.

                              Eric,

I am still using an older, stable, version " Fork V0.8.005F" but two things that may have been done later but would be useful would be:

Ability to size the window showing the objects that are in use. Particularly helpful when laying track or roads. Maybe in the startup file..

Ability to designate on startup what the parameter for grade is. I understand that the various parameters are necessary for a program that is used world-wide so all have to be available but it would cause less consternation if this was a startup parameter.
