Tutorials You Can't Understand!

Why is it that all the tutorials I've tried to watch regarding Open Rails or TSRE have a narrator with a heavy foreign accent. I can't understand a word they're saying! It's VERY frustrating and useless as far as I'm concerned!

So then, once you've learned enough, make a vid tutorial so people with your "heavy" native accent will benefit. Then, people from other parts of the world can say the same about your tutorial.

I mean if you're not following Indian tutorials, the others are either no audio or simple English... Nothing too complicated.
Regarding the accent, you gotta deal with it

The wonderful thing about our hobby is the cross-cultural attraction of trains. As such, we must deal with dialect differences as well as language differences. Something you (and possibly others) can do to help mitigate the issue (just suggested trials, not proven solutions):
1. Ask your presenter via private message for a written transcript of the video. This can be easily done by AI if he/she has trained an AI tool to their voice.
2. If he/she can't, offer to partner with them to find a way to narrate the video yourself and post under their name in "idiomatic American" or something similar. Certainly not "real English". They are probably speaking "real English" more than me!
3. A compromise may be to, with their permission, run the video through your own AI transcriber, polish a printed narrative, and publish it with the video or narrate it yourself in perfect American slang on a new video under their name with "transcribed" attached, like old radio programs used to do.

At any rate, I suggest we all spend more time solving problems rather than complaining about lack of solutions. It's a lot more fun, and avoids some pesky irritations.

In many cases, you are lucky to even get English at all.

It's not the ones that attempt to speak English (when it's not their first language) that bug me, since at least they are trying. It's the ones that are completely silent speaking-wise and often include annoying music and go through a series of steps with no explanation, or they just type "instructions" in a text editor window, or provide no guidance at all unless you are willing to stop the video every 5 seconds.

Could you outline what help you actually wanted? Your OP seemed to begin and end with a complaint that tutorials are being made by people who don't sound the same as you do.

You should listen to us New Yorkers............I worked for a RR up in VT back in 2000's.....we had one short line down in Alabama, Florida Panhandle.....some days things would go wrong and we[d have to notify some of the local Police departments......God, those damned Florida Crackers with the marbles in their mouth were the toughest thing to understand........AND to top it off, one woman I was talking had the nerve to say US NEW YAWKERS talked "funny".......she thought the Brookaleen accent was da problem.

Listening to the Indian contributors isn't bad on this site....it's contacting them (e-mail) to straighten out information or missing files that's the pain in the petunias.......still waiting for an answer 2 weeks ago to my request for his source to find missing files he claims are listed in Train-Sim library, but found nowhere...I'm still waiting on another website to buy a payware route which has an obscure ordering/payment pain in the keister....they're piss poor with correspondence...Sheeeez

Have to contact one now about his screwed up IR_Vijayawada route files.

Again, it's probably worth keeping in mind that not all the Indian contributors to this site may be fluent in written English so correspondence may be problematic. As you've pointed out Doug the variations in "American English" can be pretty wide and I know my very Aussie accent has occasionally been problematic dealing with Americans through work (and vice versa) via phones & zoom. I don't speak or read any other languages and I know at the time I first entered MSTS, I was very impressed by some of the European content but found the non-English sites, forums and some readmes very hard to navigate. That's always going to be an issue with an international hobby and Dan's suggestion of AI is a very good solution. Try getting AI to translate your request into Hindi and then messaging with both the English and Hindi text and see if that makes a difference.

I play an MMO game and while most of us that get onto discord together are Aussies & Kiwis other members of our clan come from various Asian countries around the Singapore based server so google translate and/or AI have been fantastic at allowing us to pass information back and forth. It's well worth a try.
