    Adding grass with forest option

I added some grass to the Forest DAT file. Thought it might be easier to add grass trackside this way rather than a million clicks like I had been doing.
However it never shows in the sim. I see it in TSRE but not in the sim. If I add it away from the track, it works. But if I place it alongside the track, nothing. Kinda odd.

    Any help greatly appreciated.

There's a problem with your texture. It's not square or divisible by two or something.
    I spent a long time chasing down a 4098x4096.

Oh ok. It works fine as a regular object being placed with TSRE, or as a forest option like 100 x 100 or 5 x 200 etc, but not anywhere near the tracks which is weird.

        Oh, well that's different.
You'll probably have to raise them above the landscape using the vertical offset.

If you look underground you may already have several.

So, I've done this with my own route. The grass shows up in spring, summer and fall, but not winter, and the winter texture is in the appropriate file.

Guess I'll have to check out the size of the texture and make sure it matches.

Tried everything. Nothing seems to work. Back to laying short areas one click at a time for the next few months.

Are your using the "No Trees" add-on for OR?
If so that might be causing the grass shapes nearest the track from not showing up if they are placed closer than the distance specified, as that is for Forest trees and if using your grass as a forest object, it will treat it the same as if it was a tree textures.

If you get friendly with TSRE, you can lay grass along the ROW with one click for lengthy stretches. After, you may have to go shift angles around curves, turnouts, and over grade crossings, but a much better solution then one click, repeat.

Actually I have tried it with trees, and it still wont display.
I tried adding forest sections on 2 different routes and it worked. So maybe this route has some weird option checked somewhere.

Can you post the content of the TRK file?

                        Try adding two lines...

                        Code:
                        ORTSUserPreferenceForestClearDistance ( 2 )
                        ORTSUserPreferenceRemoveForestTreesFromRoads ( 2 )
Just in case there is a default being invoked without those lines.

I tried that to no avail. No forest sections show alongside tracks. Although I am still using the old version of TSRE5. So I don't know if those ORTS lines apply to using new TSRE versions.

Is it possible that you have a second .trk file in your route that's located in the Openrails subdirectory?

Kaboom! That was it. I have no idea what that folder is for nor know what the other TRK file does in there. But removing it - bad idea? - did the trick.
                              Thank you!
