TSRE GenX v0.17 Released
Hi Folks,
A new GenX build is available with expanded route diagnostics, SNAP-pole wires, and a round of bug fixes.- SNAP Wires: Pole placement, adjustable sag/width, wire baking, and cleanup. Includes a separate SCOsnapPole example download and a new user guide. The wire work is still a work in progress—please try it on a route copy and report any issues.
- Route Diagnostics: Improved F11 scanning for stacked/orphan track and connection problems, with clearer results and remembered review choices.
- Editor Updates: Pickup alignment, automatic transfer-table and turntable activation, an explicit Snow texture set, and improved shape texture reload.
- Bug Fixes: Corrected wire/PolyVeg cleanup and discard issues, shared terrain-texture saves, activity-preview initialization, unloaded-terrain crashes, and the double Consist Builder launch sound.
Both compiler builds passed all 25 automated tests. As always, back up your routes before updating.

Hi Scott
I wanted to download v0.17, but I can't find where to click after accessing your link. First time it's happened, I must be getting even more senile! - but - where do I click? Looking forward to trying out especially Route Diagnostics and PolyVeg.

Hi Tony,
Sorry for the confusion - I inadvertently linked straight to the download page which is where the confusion came in.
Here is the normal reference (this link never changes):

Hi...
Thanks for the assist.
Hi Marek,
Nice work - thanks for your efforts. And steam to boot.
Wires make a HUGE difference to me. You can use any pole you want with any number wires - you can use multiple models and wires will only attach to like. In the model you just need to export attachment matrices named SNAP_1, SNAP_2, and so on in the first LOD hierarchy. Preserve those matrices in the exported `.s`, not only in your modeling software - as these are the attachment points for the wire in TSRE. If you open the hierarchy view on my included example - you will see all the wire attachment points.
Thanks to Pete - the latest Blender exporter will recognize the keyword "SNAP" and protect it on export.
I plan to do a great deal more to this feature.

Hello. How do I change the language? Also, is it normal for it to move around on its own? I’m also looking for the user manual... because I can't seem to create a forest... Thanks a lot for your feedback. Éric.

I have not made any concessions to change the language.
I don't understand "move around on its own"?
As for the documentation - there is a "Docs" folder with all kinds of information and user guides in this folder.
I've also posted the link to the same user guides on my Git site - many times.

I looked at your link - if that's your work - very nice job.

This post is not entirely on topic, but I hope it will be of interest. I recently downloaded a 10m DTM of the entire United Kingdom, and also a small number of 1m Lidar tiles. I wanted to see if perhaps I could figure a way of modifying the DTMs to make them compatible with TSRE. CoPilot assured me it is possible to load tif files into TSRE5 and provided detailed instructions. I followed these using a subset of tif tiles obtained from the 10m dtm using QGis, but as I anticipated it didn't work. This is what it said
To paraphrase an overused saying "There are lies, damned lies and AI". No doubt Scott, Eric and Piotr will notice quite a few oddities (to put it politely) there.TSRE5’s TIFF terrain import: the real mechanism
TSRE5 does not “import” TIFFs through a menu anymore.
It auto‑loads DEMs placed in the route’s DEM/ folder.
✔ TSRE5 scans the folder:
Code
ROUTES/<YourRoute>/DEM/
✔ It loads any GeoTIFF it finds
As long as the TIFF:
is georeferenced (has a valid GeoTIFF tag set)
is in WGS84 (EPSG:4326) or a projected CRS TSRE can reproject
covers the area of your route origin
✔ TSRE5 internally:
reads the TIFF
reprojects it to MSTS world coordinates
resamples it to MSTS tile resolution
writes terrain directly into the MSTS .t tiles
✔ No HGT conversion
No SRTM grid.
No 1201×1201 limit.
No tiling.
No GDAL tools required.
This is why the old “Import DEM” menu disappeared.
However, I would like to see it work like this, so that is now on my wish list for tsre5. There are many hi res DEMS available, so a facility like this would undoubtedly be widely appreciated.
And BTW I would also like to add my congratulations to Éric for the super creations on his site.Comment

Thanks for the suggeststions.
Not sure I'll ever incorporate it into TSRE GenX.
You have your own private GeoTIFF's at 10m for UK that you want processed? I could potentially look at LIDEX to process something like that?

Hi Scott
I am mindful of how productive you've been, so of course these are only suggestions! I do try to make them constructive. I think incorporating it into Lidex would be widely appreciated, as there are many datasets available, not just 10 m tifs but also lidar at various resolutions, not just UK but all over europe as well. I do appreciate that what I suggest is not trivial.
As a matter of interest, I did try using demex, without success. The tif loaded but not the route tiles (generated by tsre5). I have used 10m tifs in the past (see picture) , but with the tiles generated by msts re. I still have a few other things to try though, including firing up my antique WIN 7 tower 32 bit computer and using the original demex on that.
I have to say that TSRE GenX does a fantastic job at 30m, but having seen the super results from the Lidar data sets I'd really like to do better, at least on the tiles that carry the route, simply because the hard work of getting the gradients, embankments and cuts would be a lot simpler - my experience with 10 tifs indicates that they would be adequate. None of this is to say that I'm not immensely grateful for what you have achieved already, and continue to do.

The picture above illustrates why I am so interested in being able to load 10 m dtms into tsre5. It is a screenshot of a route I created using MSTS RE, Demex, and a 10m tif published by the autonomous government of Friuli Venezia Giulia, in Italy. Apart from anything else it does show the ubiquity of dems at high resolution (this was from 15 years ago or more; I don't remember). This is before any manual editing of the terrain, even at 10m resolution it was very easy to lay on the terrain, with very little adding to embankments or cuts - you can see what a good fit it is..

Hi Tony,
If you can put your GEOTIFF’s somewhere I can get to them - no promises - but I’ll evaluate and see what I can do.

Hi Folks,
Next release:
[v0.18] [New Feature] [PolyVeg] [Global Forest Replacement]
One button. An entire route transformed.
● Replace legacy (billboard face-the-user) monoculture Forest Regions across your whole route with diverse, realistic (shape-based) PolyVeg woodland using your selected species mix, proportions and size variation.
● Overlapping forest footprints merge into continuous planting areas, so shared ground is planted once—avoiding doubled density and artificial gaps at tile seams.
● The tool respects track, road, water, slope and spacing exclusions, checks terrain coverage, and generates and bakes one tile at a time. Progress and cancellation keep you informed while rendering and editing pause.
● On success, all original Forest Regions are removed. Cancellation or failure rolls back the replacement.
Select a Forest → Hacks… → Replace All Forest Regions → confirm.
Back up first. Save when complete. Baking clears Undo.
NOTE: This also eliminates expensive runtime calculations in ORTS - to calculate forest region exclusions for Road and Track.
Here is Paul's beautiful CT River - all monoculture billboard face-the-user "Forest Regions" automatically replaced with diverse shape-based "PolyVeg" vegetation - 77 minutes to process on my machine - ~10,000,000 assets added - no noticeable performance drop - now comes Miller Time.
