Electro-Motive power is on the point of this hotshot Union Pacific intermodal freight seen heading westbound in these undated images. In the lead is a massive DDA40X "Centennial" locomotive, paired with the more common SD40-2; UP owned 47 DDA40X units, delivered between 1969 and 1971. The locos were taken out of service in 1980, although 25 of them would be brought out of storage and put on the road again in 1984. All were retired for the final time by the middle of 1986.
