    Union Pacific Train #5: Westbound

An Alco PA-1/PB-1 lashup leads Union Pacific mail & express train #5 westbound towards Salt Lake City in these undated images captured somewhere in Utah. The Union Pacific rostered fewer than 15 PA/PB units and each had been reassigned to freight duty by 1958, with EMD E8 and E9 locomotives handling the bulk of the road's passenger traffic. All of the handsome passenger Alcos were retired by the end of 1965, one unit having been converted as a control unit for UP's coal-fired turbine experiments in 1962.

Locos: BLW ... Consist: BLW + BLW/ZT ... Route: SLI Green River
