Still crashing to desktop

On the Whitefish4_Hawk route, on MSTS, I still cannot run the Christmas, DeadOnTheClock, and DeadOnTheClock2 activities. As soon as the cursor goes onto the activity's name on the menu it's stuck there and MSTS crashes to the desktop. All three run in Open Rails, and show no errors. I'm enclosing the log from running DeadOnTheClock, but the logs from Christmas Day and DeadOnTheClock2 are the same.

I think you are in a dead end with this one, considering we are now up to Whitefish 10, not to may of us run or even have 4 anymore.

Edit - Do you know the file name those activities came from, as they do not appear to be default with the route, so can be looked at?

Yes, MSTS is a bummer like that, but basically that mean you are missing something. Even one car of loss stock missing will cause MSTS to barf, and no explanation given. OR will simply just not load missing rolling stock, except for player engines. So with loss stock you might never realize those cars were missing, appearing as a gap between other cars.

Had that happen in the consist I was driving. While in 4 view in OR, as you can watch the entire train pass you by. I see a gap in my consist. Checking the consist and OR log revealed I had miss named in the new .wag for that car when I made a new empty version for it.

Edit - BTW since you had a problem with the Silverliners as well - I strongly suggest you use ConBuilder with MSTS, available in the FL - that way you can check the activities for missing rolling stock in consists and loose stock, and replace what is missing with what you have. That will avoid many of these issues that cause MSTS to barf.

I cannot trace those two activities in the file library, or my archives. Are they part of a pack? A .zip file name would be helpful

"Crewgonedead.act" is named "Dead On the Clock"., etc.
Didn't they come with the original installation [wf4_hawk = File ID 63735]?

You are correct!

Roger : I have started both activities, Crewgonedead and Crewgonedead2 and MSTS runs without any problem.
MSTS_ActMan gave all the supplied activities a clear bill of health
CAVEAT : I installed the route into a default MSTS installation. No consists or stock are provided so it appears to use default stock and consists. Maybe you installed your route elsewhere so were missing those items?

I stand corrected - been years since I had that route installed, and missed them when I took a look at the file.

Besides missing rolling stock, missing sound files can cause MSTS to have fits as well. As Sliperman says, make sure all the MSTS defaults are installed properly, and the Route is properly installed.
Edit - Add missing Environment files as well will thought fits with MSTS.\ - need all the proper .ace textures called for.

@oper190: Is ConBuilder better than Route-Riter? I'm not satisfied with Route-Riter because it doesn't check the .act file.

I have found it easier and better for checking consists and static stock. You can check your entire collection of consists, specific ones, or those in individual activities. Static / loss stock by Activity with a simple mouse click to replace every occurrence of a missing car or engine with one you have.
To be honest I never have used RouteRiter to change out rolling stock, tried it and it seemed more complicated than ConBuilder, so I've always used ConBuilder for this.

I downloaded ConBuilder 2.4.9 and it said it was not allowed to run with WinNTx. So I downloaded ConBuilder 2.4.7. It said the same thing. What am I missing?

I'm using Windows XP, 10, and 11 and had no problems downloading on them, using 2.4.9.

Hi Roger,
Regarding your problem getting ConBuilder 2.4.7 and 2.4.9 to run - I think you might mean the installer.
If so, I respectfully suggest that you haven't read the Install_Readme.rtf file supplied with each. The second paragraph specifies what you need to do to get the installer to run.
