• The Night Before Christmas....

'Twas the Night before Christmas, and all through the yard,
Not a whistle was blowing, not a steam plume stirred.
The engines, all silent, in slumber did sleep,
While visions of passengers danced in their dreams.

The rails, silver gleamed in the pale moon's light,
As signals stood frozen, no red to ignite.
No coal clattered down, no pistons did churn,
Only soft winter snowflakes softly did turn.

On the roundhouse roof, perched high with a grin,
A lone Santa conductor, his work nearly din.
He checked his dispatch list, eyes bright as the stars,
Delivering dreams aboard freight and boxcars.

For every train fan, a gift he'd bestow,
New routes to explore, where rivers would flow.
Scenic vistas unfurled, mountains to climb,
Through tunnels and towns, on the wings of time.

For the engineer's son, a starter set bright,
With Thomas and Percy, chugging in the night.
For the sim veteran, a route complex and grand,
With signals to master, and switching lists at hand.

A Pullman for one, a horn for another,
A gleaming new GEVO, for sister and brother.
For history buffs, a steam engine so grand,
Whispering memories through a forgotten land.

Each gift wrapped with care, in ribbons of code,
Ready to download, as Santa rode.
With a whistle so cheery, and a wave of his hand,
He spread joy on the rails, across the whole land.

So when morning arrives, and the sun peeks in bright,
TrainSim fans awake to a magical sight.
Their dreams come to life, on screens warm and aglow,
The perfect Christmas, where train spirits flow.

So raise a hot cocoa, a toast to the night,
When Santa on Rails brought pure TrainSim delight.
Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good run,
May your engines forever, under bright stars, gleam and hum!

Merry Christmas to all who celebrate from the crew here at Trainsim.com!

What a beautifully written piece about the magic of the night before Christmas! It's amazing how special moments like these bring people together. Speaking of meaningful journeys, it reminds me of how important travel is for creating lasting memories. Whether it's a spiritual trip or a family vacation, these experiences stay with us forever. I have recently come across services that make such journeys smoother and provide;cheap travel packages, especially for those traveling for spiritual purposes. Truly, the right planning can make all the difference in any journey!

• State of the Site - May 2026

Is it just me, or has the year been flying by?... Numbers rarely lie, and yes, there's been a slight uptick in activity as we see every time schools close for the academic year... And sure enough, I noticed that the warning lights in town are dark for the school zone. Starting in a few days, we'll have a few less trips to pick up grandkids from school (they get out much later than other districts around us).

A few of us pack up and leave for the summer, sometimes to do other jobs,...

• State of the Site - April 2026

I know, I should have posted something yesterday for April Fools, but the reality of Amtrak merging with Greyhound just didn't seem too far off anymore. Nor would telling people I sold the site to SpaceX who was going to now reform this as SpaceSim.com or something with an X in it.

Truth is I've been a bit busy the last eight weeks, mostly with finishing up stuff that needed to be done around our property. After almost a year of planning and construction, we finally moved into our...

A slightly belated Happy New Year... and a happy Snowmaggedon if you happen to be in the current storm Fern's path. The site's servers should be unaffected, so feel free to download as long as you have power & internet...

I was ready to write this up two weeks ago, until the stunning loss in the first round of the NFL playoffs of my beloved Green Bay Packers to the soon to be Gary or Arlington Heights Bears, which had me in a mandatory mourning period.

• FlightSim.com Closing Down?
by eric

I was told today (and confirmed) that FlightSim.com has changed ownership yet again, and the new owners are going to be closing down both their file library as well as their forums "temporarily"....

As someone just said to me an hour ago... Imagine the situation OUR community would be in today had we not obtained our independence three years ago...

It's heartbreaking, and hopefully the forum content isn't lost forever.

If any of you are active in...

• Merry Christmas
by eric

’Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the site, Not a member was posting, not even a bot. The File Library waited with downloads all clean, In hopes that a First Class Member soon would be seen.

The users were nestled all snug in their beds, While visions of Open Rails danced in their heads; And Eric in his RV, and I with my mouse, Had just settled down in a quiet, not yet finished house.

When out on the forum there rose such a clatter, I clicked on “Recent...

• Steam4Me Content
by eric

As many of you know, Steam4Me, founded by Yuri Sos, closed down in early 2024 following his death in October 2023. Unlike UKTS, where ample notice of their closure was provided, there was no notice, and no ability to immediately provide a new home for the many uniquely Australian routes and rolling stock. Some items were fortunately available from the Wayback Machine, but several key ones were not.

Thanks to the efforts of Peter O'Neill (ossie) and several content creators who were...
